I'm a New Yorker and see several Broadway plays and musicals every month. My answer to the the balcony/not question is "it depends." The left and right mezzanine are odd and even numbered respectively, with seats numbers falling between 1-17 and 2-18. Sitting in the mezzanine feels more intimate. Orchestra is on the floor in front of the stage. Luck of the draw sitting back here but if you don't have a tall person than the view is pretty good. Secret Tip: Row J in the mezzanine has the most foot room of any row in the theatre. Depending on where you are sitting you may not be able to see the folks sitting in the orchestra making it feel like your own private theatre. The mezzanine is different than the balcony-it is lower and closer to the stage (and front mezzanine seats are generally the same price as orchestra seats, while balcony seats are usually the least expensive). Talking about the view, most of the seats in the mezzanine section offer a pretty good view, some seats with a better view than even the centre orchestra seats.

Better legroom is only available on the front row and aisle seats, although unlike the Left and Right Orchestra these face head-on to the stage. I've seen productions from the front row of the orchestra and from the back row of the balcony. But despite the distance from the stage, some theatre-goers still prefer mezzanine seating because of better and unobstructed view. Closer up on the sides, close to the aisle, can be better than center orchestra farther back. But if you're too close, you can't see the back of the stage. Also, because you're closer up, you're likely to miss what's going on elsewhere on the stage. We had 3 seats and one seat had an obstructed view the whole time because a tall person was sitting two rows in front of us.
