An ideal Launch Angle and Spin Rate for a Ball Speed with a 6 iron of 115 MPH would be right about 15-16* and 6000 RPM’s respectively.

The Nippon shaft you tested produced the closest to optimum at 100mph ball speed which is 21-22 degree launch angle and 5900-6100 rpm spin.

These distances can only be attained with an upward attack angle (+5 degrees) and fairly low spin rates - somewhere between 1900 - … A higher spin loft, however, will always increase spin and slow down down ball speed, and vice versa.

If you look at the chart below, the gap between the red and blue lines is the spin loft. So if you are using a 7 … I am currently using Ping Ie irons, so they aren't the strongest lofted irons ever and aren't the weakest either. So if one was happy only measuring down to ~2000 rpm then 10 feet would be OK etc. I am trying to find what the ideal spin rate is for a 7 iron. One way to reduce spin is to hit a lower lofted club.

My current 7 iron is a miz MP59 with a KBS stiff shaft. They all swing the club at different speeds, with different attack angles and spin rates that result in all kinds of different Trackman stats. If your Ball Speed was higher than that, say up to 125, which is a few MPH slower than PGA Tour average, you would want spin to stay within 200-300 RPM’s higher, and Launch Angle to come down to about 14*.

Spin loft is one of the factors that causes spin rate, but it is not the only factor. For reference and fun, I was hitting a png i20 with the stock png shaft and KBS tour (both stiff) and the spin rate was 4400 and 3800. Im looking to get the 712's and didnt know if the CB or AP2 would provide lower spin rates. A good way to look at it is that the first number of the backspin rate should match the number on the bottom of the club you are using.
