UMDR Project to remove emerging in-stream willows along the Murrumbidgee River

UMDR  project to remove emerging in-stream willows along the Murrumbidgee River

The UMDR Community Willow Control project was launched with a splash by the Minister for Primary Industries, the Hon Ms Katrina Hodgkinson and member for Monaro, Mr John Barilaro MP, when they met up with project partners and supporters at Angle Crossing on 31st January.  Better still, at the launch, the Minister herself tested the waters by canoeing across the river and trying her hand at the type of work the project will be doing on the river….and no…. this was not the source of the ‘splash’!

Willow Management Strategy

From the foreword to the Strategy by Drew English:

There is a strong history of willow management in the upper Murrumbidgee — many of the accepted strategies and techniques began or have been tested in the region. An early ‘Willow Warrior’ in this region, Kurt Cremer, spent much of his later life observing, mapping and developing some of the management techniques that are included in this strategy.
