African Lovegrass Survey

African Lovegrass (ALG) is a highly invasive environmental and agricultural weed in the region.

The Southern ACT Catchment Group is carrying out a project aimed at enhanced education & improved control of ALG infestation across the ACT. Part of this project involves conducting a survey on ALG distribution. This project is funded by an Australian Government Community Action Grant. Sarah Sharp will conduct surveys from our major arterial roads but we really need your help to map the location of ALG in the suburbs, nature reserves and parks and across the rural area of the ACT. Although the primary aim of this survey is to map the distribution of ALG in the ACT, details of infestations in surrounding NSW areas will provide valuable information on rate/method/direction of spread. Listen to ABC 666's Sarina Locke talk to Sarah about African Lovegrass and the survey at www.abc.net.au/rural/content/2011/s3144985.htm. More information including an ALG fact sheet can be found here. For a range of African Lovegrass photos to help with identification see www.flickr.com/photos/sactcg.
