Position Vacant - UMLC Landcare Coordinator

The Upper Murrumbidgee Landcare Committee (UMLC) has been successful in gaining a South East Local Land Services (SE LLS) Community, Industry and Landcare Fund project “Supporting the delivery of NRM outcomes in the upper Murrumbidgee”. The funding will allow UMLC to engage a contractor to deliver the work stipulated in the Funding Deed between SE LLS and UMLC. We are seeking applications from individuals who would be interested in undertaking this work.

Project location

The successful applicant will work in a broad area from Cooma to the ACT border along the upper Murrumbidgee, Numeralla, Bredbo, Queanbeyan and Molonglo rivers.

Job description

The Landcare Coordinator will offer professional support to landcare in the region serviced by the UMLC.  The successful applicant will work on a contract basis reporting to and under the general direction of the UMLC and work with the existing 9 UMLC Landcare Groups to create opportunities for funding and implementation of landscape-scale Natural Resource Management (NRM) projects. The Coordinator will support and grow the UMLC network, organise and assist with workshops and engage with Landcare members and farmers. This will include the regular production of a Newsletter. In addition, collaboration with other Landcare Networks, community groups, local schools, the South East Local Land Services and other stakeholders will be important to achieve positive NRM outcomes for the Upper Murrumbidgee region.

Project Objectives include:

  • Provide professional support to community groups interested in improving their natural resource management;
  • Provide coordinated communications to Landcare Group members and supporters regarding best practice natural resource management;
  • Provide Landcare members and supporters with access to educational opportunities to assist them in improving their knowledge and skills in relation to natural resource management including workshops and field days;
  • Provide practical support to Landcare members, assisting them in applying for funds, managing and implementing projects with a focus on improvements to the natural resource base.

Conditions of contract

Funding for the position is currently available on an average of two-days-a-week for 48 weeks per year up to 31 May 2018. There will be some flexibility as to how the successful applicant organises their work time to complete the tasks required.

Remuneration will be in the range of $350-$400 (ex GST) per nominal day depending on the applicants skills and experience.

In addition, to the nominal daily rate, superannuation will be paid at the current Government guarantee rate.

The successful applicant will be expected to have an Australian Business Number (ABN), current insurance policies relevant to the job, including Public Liability and Personal Accident, and to have access to office facilities including computer, printer, phone (mobile phone essential). They will also be required to provide their own vehicle with comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. A modest budget is available for office materials and travel costs.

The successful applicant will be expected to work occasionally on a weekend and attend some evening meetings.
